Archaeological Museum of Narona, Vid

Located in the picturesque village of Vid, not far from Metković, the Archaeological Museum of Narona opens the door to the fascinating world of the ancient past. This unique museum, the first built on an archaeological site in Croatia, offers an extraordinary journey through time, returning visitors to the era when Narona was one of the most important Roman centers on the eastern coast of the Adriatic.
The Archaeological Museum of Narona was founded on May 18, 2007, and its center is the impressive Augusteum – a temple dedicated to the cult of Emperor Augustus, discovered in 1995. The museum is not only a collection of artifacts, but also a window into the daily life of the ancient Romans, providing a unique insight into the rich history of Narona, which was a Roman colony and one of the important commercial and administrative centers of the region.
The museum covers more than 1,000 square meters and includes a rich collection consisting of more than 900 exhibits, including statues of Roman emperors, fragments of ancient mosaics, ceramic vessels, jewelry, weapons and many other items that testify to the rich cultural heritage of this region. Particularly impressive are the statues of Roman emperors and members of the imperial family, which were part of the Augusteum, and today have been restored and presented to the public.
